What to Expect from MIPS in 2020

The inevitable “silver tsunami” of aging baby boomers is rapidly approaching the long-term/post-acute care space, and we all need to be ready for it. The fee-for-service system we’ve operated in up to this point isn’t going to fund the future. Instead, we need to adopt an infrastructure in which providers can assume direct responsibility for their work and be evaluated accordingly. That’s where the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) comes in.

At GPM’s 2019 LTC Summit, founder Rod Baird discussed the MIPS 2020 proposed rule updates, what obstacles they present to practitioners, what practitioners can do to overcome them, and how GPM can help. MIPS continues to adjust its performance thresholds in ways that raise the financial stakes for providers, making it even more important to participate (rather than automatically accept a penalty) and understand the program so you can ace it with ease.
